Savoring the Moments - Habu / NYC

A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to visit NYC and Habu Textiles.

In case you decide to visit too, Habu is hidden between strange fur and weird apparel shops in the garment district, in a narrow office building on West 29th Street.

Once you find Habu and enter the shop, you'll find it consists of a large white room decorated with Japanese weavings, a couple of wooden hutches for storage and baskets containing sale items that sit 'modestly' on a distressed wooden floor:

Behind the show room, I noticed secret passage ways covered in a tan colored mesh fabric. They concealed the more private areas where 'covert' activities were going on:

...From the distance, you could hear the constant 'click-clacking' of yarn being wound onto spools intermixed with women speaking Japanese. All of a sudden, the sweetest little lady would 'pop' out from behind the mesh screen and smile, magically appearing whenever you needed help or had a question. And then, just as quickly, she would return to her mysterious activities and disappear behind the screen...

This is the Habu 'wall of fiber', a wall comprised of an amazing assortment of earth-toned materials & texture. Behind me, you can see the privacy mesh:

Just to let you know, I didn't go crazy and snatch up everything I wanted to buy at Habu. I was sensible and purchased just one kit, the linen paper & silk shoulder bag.

Both the silk and linen paper will be combined - knit - transformed into a shoulder bag full of tactile pleasure:

As you would expect, there were even more moments in NYC to be savored: French pastry most mornings from Cognac, lunch in Little Italy and t-shirts from Paul Frank, Martinis, crab-lobster cakes and Filet Oscar at the Capital Grille, Wicked, the Guggenheim, walks in Central Park, the Empire State Building and Times Square.

Since our hotel was about 2 blocks from Central Park, most of my mornings started with a jog or walk through the park. This time, Gary came with me and took some photos on our walk together.

Resting on the bench in 'The Mall':

Reflections across the 'Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' reservoir:

Gary & I missed the Empire State Building on our last trip to NYC, so we made it a point to tour the observation deck this time.

It was cold and windy up there, so I found a warm & toasty spot inside:

View from the deck:

We saved a tour of Times Square for our last night in town.

Right after the rain passed through, Gary snapped some photos with the help of a mini-tripod:

Panapet

it's not lost on me
the beauty and magic of radio...

this is my companion
when the weather is nice enough

to lounge
to recline

with my feet on the cool grass
knitting in the mid-day sun

~

after 30 years it's still as good as ever
needing just a tiny bit of tlc

a small crack in the circuit board was easily mended
with a drop of glue and solder

an alarming crackle was 'squelched'
with a dab of contact cleaner

~

my panapet asks for so little
and gives much in return
